The ADR safety sticker and the UN marking serve to mark goods that may pose certain risks. By marking dangerous substances during transport, all transport participants are informed about the possible risks of the transported goods.

The ADR marking is used to mark vehicles or containers transporting dangerous goods. This is a security requirement that helps identify vehicles and goods being transported.

Lithium batteries and lithium cells are classified as dangerous goods under the Dangerous Goods Act and special packaging labeling is required. Lithium batteries are classified in hazard class 9 - various hazardous substances. A uniform label for all modes of transport can be used for marking.

The label complies with IATA Dangerous Goods regulations. The edge of the mark must have red diagonal hatching. The symbol (group of batteries, one damaged and emitting a flame, above the UN number for lithium ion or lithium metal batteries or cells) must be black on a white or suitable contrasting background. The lithium battery brand may be printed directly on the outer packaging, provided there is sufficient contrast between the elements of the lithium battery brand and the color of the packaging material.

The lithium battery mark format was revised in the 62nd edition of the IATA DGR. The mark (originally 120mm x 110mm) can now also be a square with minimum dimensions of 100mm x 100mm. This may be reduced to at least 100mm x 70mm if the size of the package makes it impossible to use a full size tag.

The wording of the trademark use provision states that the trademark must be square or rectangular - allowing the current trademark, which is 120mm x 110mm, to continue to be used.
